Happy birthday Scatty

Our sweet little scatty was one year old sometime in October...
We don't know the exact date for sure because she was a shelter cat.
She and Harvey have developed a wonderful friendship...of course there are the
occasional hisses and
And every night at 10:00 p.m. Scatty chases Harvey all around the house, for no reason at all...
Then they will both come into the family room and sit and just glare at me...
That's how they let me know it's dinner time...
So Happy Birthday to my cute little Scatty Cat...

Please meet Tibby

Shes a work in progress...I still have
to decide what clothes and wig.  I put her together
for a doll competition and now
I am going to dress her for the doll show.

She turned out really cute...she is a big girl weighing
10 1/2  pounds and 32 inches.
for the Doll show I am thinking
a long blonde wig and a cute little
ballerina outfit.

I will be making the changes soon,
just thought I would give you a glimpse of
how she turned out.

Talk to you later!!

Tibby's Artist Created Eyes

This is the Tibby kit, by Donna Rubert.
She is a work in progress.
I have created her low dome "Glass Like"
eyes using Mary Ropelato's technique.
Visit Mary's website to find out a little bit
on how these eyes are made.

Mary will be making a tutorial and selling it from her
website as soon as she gets a regular routine,
you see Mary just had a baby, and now she
has 3 little boys 5 years old and under.
I am not at liberty to tell how they are
made but I can say that Mary's technique is different
than any other you may have seen on the internet.

These eyes are hand painted,
and not computer generated.
They take me about 3 days to make one pair.
I made a 24mm pair for Tibby.

These eyes are not perfect by any means,
but the possibilities are endless.  I will be able to have
any color or size at my disposal at any time.
I hope you like Tibby's brand new eyes as
much as I did creating them.

Precious Gift

This is my newest little Sweet heart...Her sculpt name is Precious Gift and she is a kit from Bountiful Baby
She was sculpted by Cindy Musgrove.

This Reborn was a gift to my youngest daughter who is about to give birth at any
I gave it to her at the shower I threw her.

I used a darker skin tone and it turned out quite well.   I painted her hair, which went pretty good, I just have to find a way to cut down on the shine afterward.

She was a big hit and that always makes me want to Reborn more...

I have a Doll Show in October so that gives me an excuse to get quite a few more made.

I also have plans to do more sculpting.  Baby dolls???  Maybe...
Whatever mood I am in at the time..

So stand by...
Till next time

Ooh La La Paris Giveaway

                                Welcome to my Paris Party

I would like to thank Anita at Castles Crowns and Cottages for making it possible to participate in this fun blog event .

I have been pondering for several days as to what this blog post would be about.

It came to me like a flash...since my name is Dessa Rae which is French, and I make little French dolls, it would only be fitting that I introduce you to my little French girls.  * These Pixie Moppets have all been sold *

I chose the name “Pixie Moppets” for the doll line because of the pixie like face and their diminutive stature...a mere 3 ½ inches on a good day.

I decided to name them French names (of course), starting with the letter A and continuing down the alphabet.

My first little darling is Ava, a sweet and shy little moppet~

Next is Briggitte, a little Moppet with a bit of an attitude~

Now we go on to Chloe, a demure little imp..

Lets not forget Desiree, my sweet little name sake~

Last but not least is Elle, smart and inquisitive she is...

And now for the best part

                                          My Giveaway

Please let me introduce to you Francoise. She is a sweet little Moppet who is so excited to come and live with you.

You can win Francoise simply by following me, and leaving me a comment in this post.

I will be randomly drawing a name at 12:00 A.M. on June 15th 2012.

I will pay for postage anywhere worldwide.

This is my way of thanking all of my followers and my future followers.

And now as a final thought, I will leave you with the  the Can favorite dance. I remember doing this dance when I was just a little girl and wishing I lived in France...

Thank you so much for visiting....

Moon Flower

I was getting ready for bed last night and I looked up at the window and I saw the most beautiful moon.  I was too tired and lazy to get dressed to go outside and take the pic and I was afraid the clouds would shift and I would lose the effect so I took the pic from inside.  It turned out pretty good. I think it looks like a moon flower, if there is such a I guess there is now...

I see that Penny from Angelsdoor had the same idea last night...go and look for some more beautiful pictures.

Thanks for looking and I"ll see you in Paris!!

Flash from the past

This is me from 1983, taken from my local newspaper.  I had been making dolls for 6 years and loving every minute of it.  My daughter Mary loved it too, because she got to keep the experiments, boo boo babies and everything in  between.  This particular doll was my own pattern.

I stopped making cloth dolls when I was diagnosed with a severe form of eczema on my fingertips, probably from working with the fabric for so many years.

Lucky for me I found Polymer clay, and was able to start learning to sculpt.

I still love to make cloth dolls, but I still have the eczema and it flares up when I have been working with the fabric for too long.

This is the only picture I have of this doll.   I lost all of my pictures in a computer crash a long time ago.  I wish so much we would have had digital cameras way back then.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday weekend.

"As One"

I feel so honored to have my sculpt "As One" featured in the July 2012 issue of  Doll Collector Magazine.  This sculpt is very special to me, and I grew very close to these special Conjoined Twin Mermaids.  I was compelled to sculpt them and could think of nothing else during the process.   This sculpt represents all of the beautiful children who are different from the the rest of us, and yet we are all the same.

Pinterest Project

It hasn't been that long ago that I discovered  Pinterest.  I have to say that I love all the neat ideas I get from browsing.  Since I will have two new Grand babies within 3 months of each other, I decided to make 2 diaper cakes.  The other one I am still working on and will post later.
This blue diaper cake went to my newest Grandson Zander Allen.  He was born exactly one month ago.
He was two days old here and already smiling...I guess he was just happy to be here.  The next cake I will be making is going to be pink, because we will be getting a little girl in July.
Grand babies are so much fun...I have my two year old sleeping right here beside me (we are having a sleep over tonight).  Well I am off to Pinterest again to get some new ideas for my upcoming baby projects...

Cheap Reborns?

There is a discussion going on at Doll-Fan Reborn
group about people wanting cheap Reborns.

I guess I take exception to this use of the word cheap.
Miriam-Webster's definition of the word cheap is minimum expense.
I think some people equate the word cheap with inferior.
There are cheap Reborn dolls that are not inferior and
there are expensive dolls that are inferior.

I guess why I am writing all of this is I remember
the first time I set eyes on a Reborn doll.
I was surfing the net and I kept coming across
Reborn dolls, and most of them were on eBay.
I just couldn't stop looking, searching, and
drooling over these beautiful babies.

I remember how badly I wanted one of these dolls,
but they were way out of my price range.
Don't get me wrong, I would never stoop to asking an
Artist for a free reborn (that's another story).

I can understand the desire for cheap affordable, reduced,
low cost,  Reborns, because I have been there.
I now have been making these beautiful dolls since 2003.
I make Reborns out of a desire to create the
most realistic babies that I can, and yet I also want to sell
them at a very reasonable price so that
people who truly desire a Reborn can purchase one without
going in debt.

But, because I sell them cheap, does not mean they are inferior...exactly the opposite!
I maybe don't sell my babies with the beautiful layettes that come with some dolls, and I paint the hair now,
(mainly because of an injury to my arm and carpel tunnel), I make my own Glass like, low dome eyes that are second to none in comparison to the high end eyes.  All of my babies are made to exacting standards.
I don't skimp when it comes to weighting, stuffing materials, body material...etc.

I know I will never recoup the money for hours and hours put into creating a Reborn, but the love of creating them, and wanting as many people like me who want one, over shadows that fact.

I give away free Reborns to nursing homes, and hospitals
for cuddle therapy, and consider it a labor of love.

So there you have it in a nutshell.  The next time
you hear the words cheap Reborns, don't always
assume they are inferior...just made with love!!

My new Furbaby

Hi, I am so excited to show off my new little furbaby.
She is 12 weeks old, and her name is Scat.

I have her in my dolly room til she is
out of quarantine.  I adopted her from an adoption
event held at a local pet store.

This was her last time out from the shelter till
she was to be put down, in about 3 weeks.
She has the regular shelter maladies...
ear mites...probably worms...and a little runny eye,
but all of these things can be taken care of.

She is so sweet and she loves the baby crib....normally
my animals aren't allowed in or around the baby room,
but I made an exception for her, at least till we socialize
her with my other cat...who is not all that happy with
me right

When I left the store I was happy and yet
depressed  at the same time...
I wish I could save all the animals....
